Learn more about Marjorie and what she sees as some of the important trends in SAP Controlling.
How did you get your start with SAP and SAP Controlling?
My first exposure to SAP was with Fixed Assets - my company implemented FA "stand alone", and as the Cost Accountant I was the main user of the component. Several years later, I was the plant level project manager for our full SAP implementation.
What is one of the most important trends that you see currently in SAP Controlling?
Coming from a parallel accounting background, I see the functionality to post to non-leading ledgers as an important trend. Also, mobility, having access to variance data on a mobile device for example, is a critically important trend.
How do you stay on top of Controlling topics? What resources do you regularly use?
This is always a challenge! As technology improves (SAP HANA) and new features are deployed via enhancement packs; it takes a variety of sources to stay informed. I rely almost exclusively on web-based information providers. Certainly help.sap.com; then a long list of SAP SCN communities; SAPInsider articles; and a strong network of colleagues. At last year's conference, I met the team from Espresso Tutorials and their books are a great source of information.
What are you looking forward to about Controlling 2015?
This event is my all-time favorite to participate in. There are a variety of speakers, covering a wide range of relevant topics. There are interesting sponsors who bring new products and services to the attendees. As an education consultant, I am quite impressed with the learning and networking opportunities each year.
What is your favorite hobby?
I live in Florida, on the gulf coast. My newest favorite hobby is kayaking. I enjoy being "at sea level" and spending a few hours paddling around observing dolphins, manatees, and herons - all in their own habitat.
